EFP produces the "GreenWorks" family of education programs - the Emmy Award-winning GreenWorks to Pennsylvania TV program, shown on 81 TV stations in Pennsylvania, the www.GreenWorks.tv website and the www.WatershedWeekly.org weekly webcast.

What exactly does the Growing Greener" Program mean for Pennsylvanians? Ask Margaret Dunn. As resident of the nonprofit Stream Restoration Inc. in Butler County, for the past eight years she has been at the center of a dozen projects to improve watersheds in the region.

Stream Restoration was one of the recipients during the first round of Growing Greener grants awarded in January 2000. The $815,000 awarded to Stream

Restoration will go toward the construction of passive treatment systems to treat acid mine drainage discharge in Venango Township -- yet another step in helping to heal the environment from decades of unregulated mining.

The increased funding made available by Growing Greener will allow Margaret's organization to restore two miles of stream in only nine months, not years, of construction.

Margaret's story is just one of several similar tales statewide. The number of environmental success stories will rise through the next five years as Pennsylvania continues to grow greener.

BUY RECYCLED BUSINESS REP
ROLLS ACROSS PENNSYLVANIA

Pennsylvania's Buy Recycled Business Representative will be visiting counties across Pennsylvania over the next year sharing the benefits of recycling and buying recycled.

Today, in Pennsylvania, there are hundreds of businesses that offer recycled products -- from office resupplies to state-of-the-art plastic lumber picnic tables. Pennsylvania has more than 130 companies that manufacture recycled-

content products that are sold all over the world. Every time you buy recycled, you are truly "closing the Loop."

To help Pennsylvania businesses grow greener, the Department of Environmental Protection will be kicking off its commercial recycling education efforts this fall by offering customized, one-on-one assistance in recycling and buying recycled. Through recycling, buying recycled-content products and reporting your actions, your businesses can simultaneously improve its

efficiency, support markets for recycled material and enhance your local environment.

Pennsylvania's Buy Recycled Business Representative will visit your businesses, facility or office to help you conduct a waste audit and review your purchasing procedures to identify recycling and buying-recycled opportunities customized for your business.

To learn more about how your business can be smart, responsible and profitable by recycling and buying recycled, call the Recycling Hotline at (800) 346-4242 and ask for your Pennsylvania Buy Recycled Business Representative. You can also visit www. GreenWorks.tv. GreenWords "Buy Recycled"

"REAL" MEN RECYCLE MOTOR OIL

Oil doesn't wear out; it just gets dirty. Used oil can be re-refined into lubricating oil that is equal in quality to that made from crude oil. So if you're one of the many Pennsylvanians who changes your own oil, please recycle!

You can help protect the environment and save resources by taking your used oil to one of the many collections sites that have volunteered to accept used oil from the public. If all the used oil generated by do-it-yourselfers in Pennsylvania were recycled, it would save 103,000 barrels of oil every day. That's enough energy to power 17,100 homes annually.

Call the Recycling Hotline at (800) 346-4242 to identify your nearest used oil collection site.

We can all be very proud - PA has become a national green leader, including the No. 1 curbside recycling program in the US. But we can all do more to make PA greener - as you will see on these pages. Enjoy your GreenWorks Gazette! Tom Ridge
