These presentations centered around the introduction of the
Pennsylvania Environment Navigator Network (PENN). Listen
as various leaders of state environmental agencies outline
the new integrated Geographic Information System (GIS) anddescribe
how this latest technology will improve the way the DEP does
business.
Kenwood E. Giffhorn, DEP Deputy Secretary for Management
and Technical Services speaks about the evolution of GIS from
the early years of nurturing the GIS vision, to the reality
of today's GIS and the future of GIS. (12 minutes)
James M. Seif, DEP Secretary, outlines how PENN will
change the way DEP does business and how this advancement
will benefit the people of Pennsylvania. (10 minutes)
Jack Dangermond, CEO for Environmental Systems Research
Institute, Inc. describes the relationship between GIS and
geography and what key components are necessary to successful
integration of the GIS system. (10 minutes)
Brian Bradley, Bureau of Abandoned Mine Reclamation,
using various website examples, demonstrates how the PENN
system will be used in the department, how they got their
PFAS system, and what tools were used. He ends with an example
of how to handle a request for information. (13 minutes)
Heidi Marker, Training and Alternative Dispute Resolution
Services Division, Bureau of Personnel, demonstrates how a
novice can be using the PENN system in minimal time through
the PENN LEARN online training and tutorials and describes
the advantages of this new learning system. (14 minutes)
