Environmental Spotlight:
Clearing the Air
by Bonnie S. Swinehart
Did you ever have one of those nights when sleep kept eluding
you? Do you remember tossing and turning while your mind raced
in a thousand different directions no matter how hard you
tried to bring it to stillness and escape into a pleasant,
tranquil rest? If you haven't, you are both lucky and rare,
since it would suggest that you have very little conflict
in your life.
Personally I find that if there is something really bothering
me before I close my eyes at night there is a much better chance
that I'll be tossing and turning into the wee hours of the morning.
Fortunately, I have found a solution that I'm willing to share -
"clear the air" of whatever it is that's depriving you
of a good night's sleep. After all, if the air that surrounds us
is filled with unnecessary debris, then it's time to get rid of
the debris.
In fact, not only is it a healthy step to clear the air
that pollutes our personal lives and relationships from time
to time, it's healthy to "clear the air" that actually
enters into our bodies. Luckily for viewers of the GreenWorks
for Pennsylvania television production, some very important
information is available on May's episode titled "Clearing
the Air." It features some excellent news about how
to create and maintain higher air quality.
Clearing our breathing air of unwanted toxins is a problem
that affects all of us.
For instance, did you know that children breath two times
as much air as adults, and that asthma attacks are the most
common cause of hospitalization of children in America?
Are you aware that the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental
Protection offers funds to persons or companies who are exploring
alternate fuels such as solar, electric and natural gas for
use in vehicles?
If learning about this information causes some viewers to
experience a few restless nights of sleep, don't despair!
Remember my advice, "clear the air" of unnecessary
debris both in your mind and in the air you breathe by learning
what it is you can do to help create a cleaner, healthier
atmosphere. If you do, you'll be sleeping soundly in no time.
