This month Rough Terrain traveled to Dublin,
Pennsylvania to visit with a couple that have enjoyed birding throughout
their lives. Ed and Dottie Noll, 84 and 86 years old respectively,
began their passion for birding together on a trip they took a trip
out West. Here, they discovered the beautiful world of bird watching
and from then on their knowledge and appreciation for these winged
creatures evolved into a past time that keeps them actively involved
with youth to senior groups in their community.
Ed proclaims that he wants to be remembered as a teacher, as
someone who enjoyed passing on information to anyone who would listen.
He spent his life involved in the technical world of radio and television
and even taught at Temple University. Dottie describes herself as
a housewife but it's her zest for life that keeps the duo going strong.

They learned most of what they know about birds through their volunteer
work at a banding station in Washington Crossing State Park. According
to the couple, the rest of what they learned came from reading and
just spending numerous hours watching them in their backyards. |
