Meet the Bontas About Archives Send Your Stories Resources Journey to Plummers Hollow

I could feel this couple's deep affection for the forest immediately. They showed me how they live their life according to rhythms of the forest, giving attention to minute details and appreciating their place in the world. They believe a commitment to respecting the natural world starts early in life for most people. They started with their sons at a very young age and although each is uniquely different in their views, they carry with them a passion for the environment.

Now that their sons are grown up with families of their own, the Bonta's found reaching out to the community was an important component to their land preservation. They are unique landowners especially for this day in age when people are often working to block land use on private property. Instead, they graciously provide a place for people from the community to take nature walks and develop an appreciation for the forest. Bruce created numerous projects as a gesture of goodwill to the community. A nature trail that winds up the hollow is stocked with photo copies of trails at the sign board he made and there are even some benches along the way for those needing a place to stop and observe. Bruce even established a partnership with a select group of hunters that share their immense respect for the land in order to manage the large deer herd.
