Inspiring
hope in the midst of turmoil. Finding beauty in everything. Creating
opportunities and serving as a catalyst for change. These are some
of life's greatest challenges yet they are all possible when passionate,
committed individuals get involved.
On a warm Saturday morning in June, I met up with Jane Golden, Director
of Philadelphia's Mural Arts Program. Jane is a spirited woman: full
of energy, enthusiasm and an eagerness to share her thoughts on the
influence art has on the environment.

Jane is a leader in the city's movement to revitalize neighborhoods.
She began this crusade in 1984 with the Anti-Graffiti Network and
worked diligently for years helping it evolve into the more comprehensive,
collaborative program it is today. Philadelphia's Mural Arts Program
(MAP) is the most successful of its kind in the nation. Since its
inception, hundreds of artists and volunteers have dedicated their
talents to creating over 2,400 murals around the city-that's more
than any other city in the world.
