Coordinator
Iris
shares how the gardens teach about Puerto Rican culture. |

All over the country communities have
discovered the rewards of urban gardens. And Philadelphia's communities
have transformed more trash-strewn vacant lots into beautiful and
bountiful gardens than any other city in the United States.
465 community vegetable gardens and over
1,000 flower gardens are alive in Philadelphia's neighborhoods.
There are 618 families involved in producing over $1.5 million worth
of food in Philadelphia's urban gardens. |

and delicious food
Gardens provide daily recreation and
social interaction for retirees
Gardening gives kid and young people
a productive, educational and confidence-building activity
