Governor's Awards for Environmental Excellence

This episode of the award-winning GreenWorks for Pennsylvania
TV show visits with several winners of the 1998 Governor's
Awards for Environmental Excellence. The awards were created
to honor those Pennsylvania companies, organizations and individuals
who excel in the fields of pollution prevention, recycling,
land use, technology innovation, energy efficiency, market
development, and environmental education and outreach.
Award recipients showcased in this episode include:
- The Cove Shoe Company in Martinsburg, Blair County, which
took pollution prevention measures that resulted in a 50%
drop in hazardous emissions;
- Community Light and Sound, in Media, Delaware County,
a loud speaker manufacturer that decreased its waste stream,
and found that doing so also saved money and created a healthier
workplace for employees;
- The P3ERIE Steering Committee, a team of hospitals, businesses,
organizations working to eliminate mercury from the drinking
water drawn from Lake Erie, and to educate the public about
mercury's danger;
- The Newtown Jointure, a collaboration of three towns in
Bucks County that are working to limit development and preserve
the farmland that has long characterized this beautiful
area.
GreenWorks TV hosts Jaime Smith and Tom Sexton come to you
from the site of another award recipient, Wilton Armetale,
a foundry in Mount Joy, Lancaster County, that reduced its
solid waste volume by 48% and saved $50,000 through energy
efficiency and pollution prevention measures.
