Bringing Back the Barn Owl
Length: 4 minutes
The Moraine Preservation Fund is reintroducing the barn owl, a
native species whose population has dwindled so much that only one
breeding pair has been verified in southwestern Pennsylvania in
the past ten years. The barn owl is favored by farmers for killing
rodents in their barns. Reintroducing native species whose populations
have dwindled is important because all life forms are interconnected,
in what Rachel Carson called "the web of life."
Produced by the Environmental Fund for Pennsylvania as part of
the GreenWorks for Pennsylvania Television show entitled Southwestern
Pennsylvania Special.
