GreenWorks Variety Show
Length: 27 minutes
Watch Pennsylvanians who are working to improve our environment
in a "variety" of ways. This episode of the award winning
Green Works for Pennsylvania TV show features a potpourri of topics
with the hope that you will "try out" your own ways of
protecting the environment.
This episode highlights:
-
A "BioBlitz" in Allegheny County's Frick Park, sponsored
by the Carnegie Museum of Natural History-for 24 hours, citizen
volunteers assist scientists in tracking down every living thing
in order to monitor the park's biodiversity and educate the
public;
-
The Energy Efficiency Funding Group, a consulting firm dedicated
to increasing energy efficiency and reducing energy costs, which
helped the City of Philadelphia save big bucks;
-
Hershey Foods' employee-led Recycling and Waste Reduction program,
which enables Hershey to recycle or reuse 95% of its manufacturing
waste and save over $1 million per year;
-
The Lehigh River Watch Program, a partnership between Parkland
High School in SouthWhitehall Township and the Wildlands Conservancy,
through which students monitor the quality of the Lehigh River
and find sources of its pollution,
-
Rob McCombie of the Kiski-Conemaugh Watershed, who describes
the efforts of citizens throughout southwestern Pennsylvania
to clean up streams damaged by acid mine drainage;
-
Green Works Volunteer of the Month, Karen Frank of Allegheny
County, who works with the Allegheny Land Trust on the Dead
Man's Hollow Wildlife Preserve.
GreenWorks TV hosts Tom Sexton and Jaime Smith hold auditions for
a "Variety Show" of their own-laugh at the wacky side
of GreenWorks, as people display talent and skills that vary as
much as the ways available to improve our environment.
