Despite being named for Lord De La Ware, a colonial governor from Jamestown, many people consider the Delaware to be "Penn's River." Covering 6,466 square miles within Pennsylvania, this river's basin is the third largest in the state. The Delaware River has long been recognized as vital to Pennsylvania's economy, and many people now realize its importance to the health of our environment as well.
