are NOW BEING ACCEPTED for the second year of the Governor's
Watershed Stewardship awards. This award recognizes the efforts
of countless Pennsylvanians making a difference in protecting
the health of Pennsylvania's valuable watersheds. Any Pennsylvania
business, government agency, municipality, nonprofit organization,
individual, farm or agribusiness engaged in watershed efforts
in Pennsylvania are encouraged to apply.

candidate may submit only one application per project, focusing
on watershed initiatives in the following categories: partnerships,
assessment and planning, protection and restoration and demonstrations,
education and outreach.

will be presented at a ceremony to be held in Harrisburg in
Spring 2002.

Award Categories:
Watershed
Partnership - Projects that develop unique and creative
partnerships among members of a watershed community to identify
issues of concern, build consensus, and carry out initiatives.
Watershed
Assessment and Planning - Projects that assess watershed
conditions and/or plan activities that lead to a watershed
restoration or protection plan that addresses non-point source
pollution.
Watershed
Protection and Restoration Projects - Projects that are
implemented to effectively reduce, eliminate or prevent non-point
source pollution within a watershed.
Watershed
Demonstrations, Education and Outreach - Projects that
demonstrate innovative technologies or approaches to watershed
restoration and protection, as well as those that educate
the public about watershed protection and restoration.

Projects will be evaluated by an independent panel of judges
that will select winners based on the following criteria:
Protection
- demonstrated commitment to protecting the environment;
Teamwork
-involvement of business, governmental officials and community
members;
Public
Service - commitment to the public's best interest;
Communication
- effective outreach to stakeholders;
Pollution
Prevention - environmental results through pollution prevention
at its source, and;
Economic
Impact - project executed cost-effectively.
