Act
Green
www.actgreen.com
Arthur Stamoulis
At first I thought it was a joke, a website that's most attention-grabbing
feature is a picture of Gwyn Paltrow hugging Cameron Diaz, both dressed
like hippies, with the title "Act Green." I thought it made fun of
celebrities who pretended to be environmentalists. But it didn't take
long to realize that the site, in fact, was real. And despite some
cheesy PSAs with the above-mentioned stars, Act Green does contain
some useful energy-saving and green-driving tips. It also makes the
important point that "Part of acting green is letting important decision
makers — in business and in government — know that we care about
our environment." I was particularly impressed with the factoid in
the site's sample letter to William Clay Ford, Jr that the majority
of Ford's cars and trucks get worse gas mileage than the Model-T.
Produced in partnership with the Union of Concerned Scientists, Act
Green is getting important environmental information into the hands
of people who may not otherwise be interested.
