Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami

Emily Clinch

Even if you don't speak Inuktitut, there's still a place for you on the Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami website, home of Canada's national Inuit organization. The Inuit, often called Eskimos, are an indigenous people with strong historical ties to the environment. By spending a little time on the ITK website, you'll find not only a 5000-year history of the Inuit, but resources on how pollution effects food webs and an introduction to land claims. The site also contains information on the Northern Contaminants Program, as well as the Species at Risk Act, Canadian laws that could have a direct effect on many Inuit's livelihoods. Parts of the ITK site can load slowly and navigation can be tricky, but the information is well worth the hunt.
